How to Implement Effective SEO for a New Website in 2019 (9 Invaluable Tips)


You might be asking yourself the question:
How do I promote a newly-registered website with no organic traffic? If you asked me the same question 10 years
ago I would have given you standard SEO methods that worked well. At that point in time, there was not a high
level of competition because companies then, paid more attention to other marketing methods
such as TV, newspapers, radio, etc. Today, these classical marketing methods don’t
sell products anymore. The main reason is that out of 7.53 billion
people on Earth, more than 4.1 billion are online. 92% of all internet users prefer Google as
a search system – with more than 7 billion searches a day. That’s why most companies have moved online. Just imagine there are 1.9 billion websites
and 91% of them have no organic traffic – according to Ahrefs. If you insert any keyword into Google search,
you will get millions of results. Not all websites can achieve TOP-10 positions
because there are only ten positions. 75% of all searchers don’t open the second
page of the generated search results. They prefer to change their keywords if they
don’t find the correct information. There is an old joke that the best place to
hide a dead body, is Google’s second page result. It’s impossible to get ranked with standard
promotion methods because of the level of competition. Many years ago SEO specialists created numerous
guides on how to promote a website. The main part of these guides contain only
standard methods of promotion, e.g: finding keywords, creating high-quality content, fixing
technical errors, providing link building. You might then ask me again how to promote
a new website with no organic traffic, if these standard recommendations don’t work. In this video, I’ll tell you exactly how
you need to promote your website from scratch in order to get organic traffic. I will teach you 9 effective techniques. These techniques will allow you to get high
traffic and sales. Hi, I’m Anatolii from SEO Tools TV. Don’t forget to subscribe to my channel
and like this video. In my introduction, I briefly explained to
you that SEO is extremely competitive. You might disagree with me, especially if
you work in a narrow niche where you don’t have a lot of competitors. I agree that you might not have a lot of direct
competitors who monetize their websites the same way as you do. However, by providing SEO, you need to consider
indirect competitors who rank their websites on Google. Type any related keywords into Google search
and you will not only see direct competitors, but also many indirect competitors such as
Wikipedia, for example. The main question is: how to outrank them? I have prepared 9 tips that will help you
to rank your website asap. Tip number 1. Avoid SEO for Commercial Pages 10 years ago I never thought of promoting
informational pages. The reason for my pages, was to sell my products,
so, why would I need to pay attention to informational pages? However, this all changed in the last 10 years. Today, I provide SEO for informational pages
more than for commercial pages. Why have the methods changed? According to a study done by Brian Dean, the
average Google first page result contains 1,890 words. This amount of words is related to informational
pages such as blog posts. Google prefers to rank pages with detailed
information relating to user intent. These ranking pages satisfy user intent better
than commercial pages because they contain a lot more valuable information. You might be asking the question – how do
I sell goods and services from blog posts? As an example, you can add a call to action,
using references to commercial pages and pop-up windows. The main reason why there are over 1 billion
blogs on the internet is simple – they rank and they sell. This brings me to my next tip. Tip number 2. Having a Blog is Critically Important. Any successful website has a blog because
it generates traffic and sales. However, for a new website, you don’t need
to sell from your blog before you get traffic. Neil Patel recommends you don’t sell any
products for the first year, at all. This is an excellent recommendation. For the first year, only pay attention to
writing high-quality content for your blog and promote this. As a case study by Ahrefs, 88% of all Hubspot
backlinks reference back to their blog, as Hubspot uses white hat link building to earn
backlinks to their valuable blog posts. Your next question might be – what type of
content should I produce for my blog, which brings me to my third tip. Tip number 3. Pay Attention to Evergreen Content There are two types of content: news and evergreen
content. I often see websites without traffic writing
a lot of news. Nobody reads this news. The main problem with news is that it is only
news for a few days, thereafter it’s old news. For example, the popularity of the keyword
“Donald Trump winning the election” significantly decreased after the New York Times first reported
it. All pages with news are crap in terms of SEO
promotion. If you don’t have traffic – forget about
news on your website. Leave the news to CNN, Sky, Forbes, The New
York Times, etc. Create evergreen content and stick to it. Evergreen content doesn’t lose its importance
tomorrow or the day after that. Check out the following keywords: SEO courses,
how to stop smoking fast, best free e-books. People are always interested in similar questions
to these. Google boffins and many SEO bloggers proclaim
that you need to create high-quality content. It’s the number one ranking factor. The case may often be that after gaining information
and creating high-quality content, it doesn’t rank. Why is this? You might be asking yourself – what’s wrong
with your content? Even if it is high-quality. The problem is with many other high-quality
evergreen content on the internet. Which content is better? That’s the million-dollar question. Sometimes, even though you have much better
content, Google might rank other websites because content is not the only ranking factor. There are many other factors to consider,
e.g.: backlinks, brand recognition, technical optimization, etc. Let’s move on to my fourth tip. Tip number 4. Find Poorly-Written and Outdated Content Many websites have failed because they created
content about topics where Google has a lot of ranking choices. For example, if I create high-quality content
for the keyword “seo”. Can I outrank Moz, Neil Patel and any other
well-known websites? I’m not sure that would be possible – not
with my limited resources – and also, I don’t need to do that. Before creating any content find pages that
get a lot of traffic but have poorly-written and outdated content. Gather the topics into your content plan. I usually use Ahrefs for finding these topics. Go to the Content Explorer tab, type in your
keyword and click “Search”. Then choose the following filters: first published
should be more than three years ago, your language preference, organic traffic from
(more than) 1,000 visitors, DR to 40, Words less than 1,000. Using the keyword “Instagram” Ahrefs found
138 pages with thin content but had a lot of traffic. Sort by Organic Traffic and then you will
get pages with huge traffic – like so. Choose topics that are more related to your
business. For example, I randomly opened this page. This article was published on the 2nd of May,
2014 and the info is outdated today. This sends us to tip number 5. Tip number 5. Create Better Content Gather all the topics with huge traffic and
poorly-written content to your content plan. You then need to create something better. Start with writing. Do you have experience of writing yourself,
or don’t you? If you do, then start by gathering as much
info as possible. Read as much about the topic as you can. You don’t need to rewrite them, just collect
the best and most interesting ideas. When I start I usually read more than 10 articles
and combine this info with my own experience, as I also read other marketing articles every
day. When you feel totally confident about your
topic then divide the structure of your article into the heading or title, the introduction,
the main part with subheadings and don’t forget to the conclusion. The title is extremely important because 80%
of readers don’t open pages with an uninteresting title. You can spend a lot of time creating high-quality
content, but if your title is boring, then you will lose 8 out of your 10 readers. I recently recorded my first video about meta
tags, wherein I discussed 9 techniques on how to improve your CTR. And I recommend you to watch this video. The purpose of any introduction is to provoke
curiosity. People often skip reading because the introduction
is irrelevant or uninteresting. You don’t need to give away all the secrets
from your article in your introduction, just state why it’s useful and important to read
further. Don’t write a long introduction because
readers prefer to read the actual content. Divide the main part into logically structured
subheadings. Use data from different studies and refer
back to them. By doing this, you’ll confirm that your
info is trustworthy. Don’t write a long conclusion either, simply
highlight the key points from your written copy. As I said before, the average length of the
ranking page is 1,890 words. It doesn’t mean that you need to create
that average length. Many successful articles contain 5,000 or
10,000 words. But don’t write this amount of words if
you have no idea what you’re writing about. In this case, 1,000 well-written words are
much better. Quality is key. Add pictures, infographics and videos to your
copy. It helps to keep the readers’ attention. The next step is to inform readers that your
content exists. This brings me to my sixth tip. Tip number 6. Promote New Content Even if you create the best content in the
world with well-written and useful info by using many pictures, it’s simply not enough. You need to promote your content as well. Use the Skyscraper technique strategy created
by Brian Dean. Go to Ahrefs, Majestic, Semrush or Moz and
find backlinks that link to this low-quality content from your content plan. Find email addresses by using apps for Google
Chrome such as Hunter or by using manual methods – which I personally prefer more. Then outreach to them by using resources such
as Buzzstream or Pitchbox: Your Email could look something like this. Hi Alex. I was searching for some articles about “XYZ”
and I came across this article on your blog called: “XYZ topic”. I noticed that you linked to one of my favorite
articles – “XYZ favorite topic” – URL. Just wanted to give you a heads up that I’ve
created a similar one, but a lot more thorough and up-to-date here: your URL. Might be worth a mention on your page. Either way, keep up the good work! Cheers, Anatolii. Also, send out notifications to other websites,
if you mention and link to their websites, in your article. I always add a lot of external links to other
authoritative content that in turn, confirms my info and improves my level of trust. Inform the websites’ owners about your mentions. Your email could look something like this. Hi John. I just wanted to let you know that I’ve
mentioned your article about [XYZ] in my recent post: insert link to your post here. Your work was really worth sharing with my
audience. I would also love to know what you think about
it, if ever you have time. Thanks, Anatolii. Providing link building as well as high-quality
content is important, but it’s not enough. Google considers many other ranking factors
and one of them is brand recognition. The question is how to create brand awareness? This brings me to my next tip. Tip number 7. Create Brand Awareness Brand recognition is an important ranking
factor because Google ranks websites that people want to see and trust. Imagine this scenario, you went to a sporting
shop to buy some sneakers. There are many choices such as Reebok, Nike,
Adidas or terrible Chinese brands. Which would you buy? I’m assuming a famous brand. It’s the same with search. Google ranks brands such as Wikipedia, Amazon,
YouTube, Pinterest, because people wanna see them. SEO demands you to have a recognizable brand. Google considers how many times people search
on Google for your brand name. Providing information about your brand in
social networks creates brand awareness. However, social signals are indirect ranking
factors but their indirect impact is phenomenal. You’ve probably heard of the Rule of 7 – that
customers need to meet your brand 7 times before they decide to buy from you. When people search on Google – if they have
a choice between you or another website, they might choose a website that they already know. CTR is not a ranking factor, but traffic is
more important than your position. People use not only keywords on Google, but
they also use brand names, because they are related to their keywords. Google counts this as a brand mention. If you decided to make use of social media
networks, the next step is to choose the right social media in order to find your audience. For example, for a marketing agency, it might
be Facebook, Twitter or LinkedIn. If your audience prefers fashion, then choose
Instagram or Pinterest. The main purpose of any social media platform
is to keep its audience on it, as long as possible. In other words, the more time people spend
on their platforms – the more money they earn. For example, Facebook completely removed organic
traffic from its platform. Today you only have one choice – this is to
set up paid ads. Consider the fact that the Facebook audience
doesn’t wanna buy, their main purpose is to speak to their friends and keep in touch
with their publications. You can create brand awareness by providing
content that you created for your blog. Spend from $50 to $100 on Facebook ads or
other social media networks where your audience exists. Is this expensive? In comparison, Neil Patel usually spends $400
per post. The budget depends on your level of competition. You’ve learnt about high-quality content,
link building and brand awareness. If you provide all of these you will receive
organic traffic. Would you like your visitors to return to
your website? It’s much cheaper to keep your existing
customers, encouraging them to buy more and more, than finding new customers to buy from
you. This brings me to my next tip. Tip number 8. Returning Visitors It takes a lot of resources to get traffic. However, all visitors don’t buy your products
the first time they open your website. On average, people need to see your brand
seven times over three months, before they decide to buy. An interesting fact is that first-time visitors
won’t remember your brand the next day. There are 1.9 billion other websites where
your audience spends their time – why should they remember one more website? You need to get them to return to your website. The first step is to set up remarketing aka
retargeting for Facebook and Google ads. Remarketing is the marketing instrument to
repeat your paid ads to people who have already visited your website. Create a landing page with a lucrative offer,
then your visitors will have additional reason to buy your products. The second step is to set up push notifications
that inform the audience when you have a new offer or new content. A push notification is an automated message
sent to your visitors. The third step is increasing your list of
email subscribers. Add special forms or pop-up windows to your
website to increase your subscribers. Remember, people subscribe if you give them
value. Okay, I have listed all my recommendations,
but one. This brings me to my final tip. Tip number 9. Use Google Console During promotions you’ll receive organic
traffic. Check all your results on Google Console – it’s
free. Open the “Performance” tab and analyze
your results. You will be able to enhance your results with
this data. I usually use promotion methods 4-10 and 11-30. Let me explain what they are. First of all, I open Google Console to find
my existing ranking positions from 4 to 10 and from 11 to 30. I then export this data to Google Sheets from
where I am able to create the necessary filters, with positions. Overall, my purpose is to improve these positions
to increase CTR and receive more traffic. According to Advancedwebranking, the higher
you rank – the higher your CTR and traffic. There are two directions to improving positions:
On-page SEO and Off-page SEO. For On-page SEO, compare your pages to your
competitors’ pages so as to improve UX (User Experience) for your pages and add more value. For Off-page SEO, use Ahrefs to compare your
external backlinks with competitors’ backlinks, to implement effective link building strategies. That’s it for today. Let me know which techniques you will be using
